Watch live: Pope Francis honored with funeral in Rome

Pope Francis’s funeral is slated to begin early Saturday in Rome as Catholics mourn the loss of their leader and prepare for the conclave to replace him.

Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re will preside over Francis’s funeral in St. Peter’s Square and is expected to deliver the eulogy.

Francis died earlier this week from heart failure due to a stroke that put him into a coma. The 88-year-old Vatican leader had been suffering from health complications stemming from chronic lung disease for months.

World leaders from around the globe — from President Trump and former President Biden to French President Emmanuel Macron to the British royal family — are expected to attend the funeral to commemorate the pontiff’s legacy.

The procession is expected to begin around 4 a.m. EDT in Rome.
