Middlesbrough have now made an offer to sign a serial Championship goalscorer ahead of three other clubs, according to recent reports.
Sarmiento “very pleased” to join Middlesbrough
It looked as though Jeremy Sarmiento was destined for Birmingham City at one stage, before Middlesbrough came flying in to hijack the Blues and welcome the South American in a permanent deal from Brighton & Hove Albion.
It’s a statement of intent from those in Teesside, having welcomed their third arrival of the window after Chelsea’s Leo Castledine and Aston Villa’s Finley Munroe.
Speaking for the first time since joining Boro, Sarmiento told the club website: “I’m very pleased to finally be here. The ambition from everyone at the club is what attracted me to Boro. I’m hungry to get going, and I can’t wait to show people what I can do.”
After dropping down from the Premier League, it may not be too long before the winger gets another chance to make an impact in the top flight.
As things stand, Kim Hellberg’s Middlesbrough side sit second and just three points behind a Coventry City side who have certainly felt the pressure as of late. Suddenly, it’s not just automatic promotion that Boro could achieve this season, it’s the silverware on top.
Their January transfer business may not be done quite yet, either. Reports have linked Hellberg and Co. to the likes of Joe Rothwell at Celtic and now a goalscoring star in the Championship.
Middlesbrough launch offer to sign Adam Armstrong
According to Sports Boom, Middlesbrough have now launched an offer to sign Adam Armstrong from Southampton which is worth eight figures. They’re rivalling Wrexham, Stoke City and Ipswich Town in a four-man transfer race in the Championship.
It’s easy to see why Middlesbrough – a side vying for promotion – have set their sights on Armstrong. The 28-year-old is a serial goalscorer at this level and already has experience in the Premier League. Secure his signature and he could make all the difference in Teesside.

The goals haven’t stopped this season, either. In 32 appearances in all competitions, Armstrong has scored 11 goals and provided a further four assists. Even as Southampton have struggled, he has stolen plenty of headlines, taking his total career goal tally to 139 in all senior competitions,
Boro’s forwards have lacked that same conviction. Both Tommy Conway and David Strelec are yet to reach double figures for goals, and their place could be up for grabs for a player as experienced as Armstrong.

There’s plenty of interest in the Southampton striker, but reports suggest that Middlesbrough are already attempting to push ahead of rival clubs in an attempt to land an excellent, last-ditch deal.
