Liverpool agree to sign free agent goalkeeper Woodman

Liverpool have agreed to sign Freddie Woodman after the goalkeeper left Preston North End as a free agent.

Woodman made 37 appearances for Preston as they finished 20th in the Championship last season, narrowly avoiding relegation by a single point.

That was his third campaign with Preston, having joined them from Newcastle United in 2022 following loan spells with Hartlepool United, Crawley Town, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and Swansea City.

He kept 12 clean sheets in those 37 games in 2024-25, with only nine Championship goalkeepers recording more shutouts.

On Friday, Liverpool announced Woodman had agreed to join the club and would link up for pre-season training with Arne Slot’s squad next month.

Woodman will serve as backup to Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will arrive from Valencia on July 1.

The Premier League champions sold Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford earlier this month.
