Cunha desperate to bring ´glory days´ back to Man Utd

Matheus Cunha wants to bring the “glory days” back to Manchester United after joining from Wolves.

United reportedly triggered a £62.5m release clause to lure Cunha from their fellow Premier League side, with the Brazilian signing a five-year contract with an option of a further 12 months.

His arrival marks the first signing of the transfer window under Ruben Amorim, who has a sizeable rebuilding task on his hands after United finished 15th in the Premier League last season.

Amorim’s side also missed out on Champions League qualification after losing in the Europa League final to Tottenham, and Cunha is desperate to help United turn things around.

“I don’t think we have one player who comes here and then doesn’t think about the glory days in Man United,” Cunha told the club’s media channels.

“To remember all the times that they won the Premier League, how many titles it was, and of course, to qualify for the Champions League. This is what I think about United, you know, to put this club on top.

“Then what I can do is everything to show them I’m here to help the team, to conquer these kinds of things.”

United finished on only 42 points last campaign, their lowest in the Premier League era, with their 15th-placed standing another unwanted ebb in the club’s history.

Amorim’s side also scored just 44 goals, another record low in their Premier League history, but the addition of Cunha may add some much-needed firepower to their frontline.

The 26-year-old made 33 Premier League appearances in 2024-25, finishing the league campaign with a team-high 15 goals for Wolves.

Cunha also created 57 chances, more than any of his Wolves team-mates, and had 110 shots (44 on target), more than any of the United players managed.

“It is the most common phrase that you can say at this moment, but this is a dream come true,” he added on his move to Old Trafford.

“Maybe outside, I think, maybe my decision they don’t understand. But when you have always dreamed of playing here, it’s easier to make this decision.

“For me, no one else is like United. Of course, I know it’s been a hard season for everyone. I think my decision shows what this club is for me and what I believe this club can be.

“And, of course, I’ll do everything that I can to manage this inside of me, to play for my dream team and put my dream team to win.”
