Tottenham Hotspur’s Yves Bissouma had the best night of his life after beating Bodo/Glimt to secure a spot in the Europa League final, but he wants to better it next week.

Spurs will face Manchester United on 21 May in Bilbao in Europe’s second-biggest competition, with both clubs looking to atone for miserable domestic seasons.

Indeed, Spurs have lost 24 games in all competitions this season, their second-highest number of defeats in a single campaign in their history after 1991-92 (25).

They also sit 17th in the Premier League table, one place behind Ruben Amorim’s side, who are out to win their second Europa League title, having prevailed in the 2016-17 final.

But having enjoyed their progression to the final, Bissouma is after more to celebrate to provide a silver lining to an underwhelming campaign.

“It was the best night of my life because I qualified for the final of the Europa League,” he told Sky Sports.

“Nothing can change it in my life and I will never forget this. And I know I can have one night that can be better than this so I’m trying to work hard to be ready for that.

“It’s not every time you have a chance to play a European final and it’s not something that’s coming every season, so a special moment like this, you feel like it’s a dream. I don’t want to wake up.

“I realise it’s not a dream. We worked hard for that to be where we are now. The club deserves it, the fans, and we deserve it as well, because every day we’re working really hard to be where we are now.

“We have to do the right things to bring that trophy home.”

Despite both teams’ Premier League struggles, that has not stopped impressive performances on the continent.

United are unbeaten in their 14 games in the Europa League this season (W9 D5), the most matches they’ve ever played in a single European campaign without losing.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have won nine matches in the Europa League this season (D3 L2) – their most-ever victories in the same campaign across major European competitions.

Bissouma impressed in his side’s Europa League semi-final, with no player taking more shots than him (six) or winning possession more times in the defensive third (six).

“It’s not just me, it’s a team,” he said. “We work so hard, the coaches, all of the staff, the players. We are a Spurs family.

“This season was really hard for us and it’s not the time for us to give up. We’re all staying together.

“Maybe you saw me play, but the coaches, the information they gave me, for me to do it on the pitch, the way we train, all these things help me to play like I played.

“It’s a team win and I’m really happy for that because now we have what we wanted. Now, it’s one more game, so let’s be ready and go.”
