Former Championship boss working at airport after sacking

In February 2025, Luke Williams was sacked as Swansea City manager after a run of seven defeats in nine Championship matches.

Just a few months later, the former Swindon Town and Notts County boss has taken on a surprising new role – working at Bristol Airport.

A photo of Williams in his airport uniform surfaced on social media last Saturday, and multiple outlets, including The Athletic, have confirmed he’s been working there for the past two weeks. His job involves assisting disabled and limited-mobility passengers around the terminal.

Although there’s no financial need for him to work while waiting for another football opportunity, sources close to Williams said he prefers to stay busy and do something meaningful rather than stay at home.

This approach echoes what he told The Guardian in 2024, where he emphasised the value of hard work. Having left school with no qualifications, he supported his early coaching career through jobs like loading lorries and driving minibuses.

“The realisation in my late-teens that life is going to be a monumental struggle for me, that life was about to become very tough and the world would become very hostile for somebody with no qualifications, no contacts, working class,” Williams explained. “That desire to feed myself and look after myself kicked in.

“I realised that I was capable of tolerating almost anything, providing that I would be able to have a roof over my head and something to eat. That is how the motivation began. I don’t think I’ve really moved away from that.”

Whether on the touchline or off, Williams’ dedication shows that hard work and humility can open doors – even when the path takes unexpected turns.
