5 Matches That Will Define Rohit Sharma’s Legacy As India’s Test Captain

India has played several memorable test matches under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. Here is a list of five such matches that will define Rohit’s legacy as India’s greatest test captain

5 Matches That Will Define Rohit Sharma’s Legacy As India’s Test Captain

1. India vs Bangladesh, Second Test 2024

This is one of the games that will stand out when someone talks about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy in test cricket, due to the way India batted to force a result in this particular match.

The match played in Kanpur was badly affected by rain majority of which was washed out, and India had to play out of their skin to clinch victory.

With little play for close to three days, a draw was inevitable. That’s when the Indian batters took matters into their own hands after the bowlers bowled Bangladesh out for 233 runs in the first innings.

The likes of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi, Shubman, Kohli, and KL Rahul scored 285 runs in record time and set up a win for the ages, breaking several records in the process.

2. India vs England, Second Test 2024

The victory in the second test against England in 2024 was a complete team effort led by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored an attacking double century and took on James Anderson.

The left-hander broke the back of England’s bowling lineup through his aggressive strokeplay and guided the team to a score of 396 following a disappointing batting display in Hyderabad in the first game.

It was up to the bowlers to restrict England to a low score, and they did their job to perfection and paved the way for India to make a strong comeback in the series.

3. India vs England, Third Test 2024

The Rohit Sharma-led side registered another come-from-behind win in the third test of the same series against England in Rajkot after being reduced to 33/3 with the double centurion of the last game back in the hut.

The onus was on captain Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja to form a solid partnership, and they did that by adding 204 runs for the fourth wicket, including a hard-fought century from Rohit and Jadeja.

The duo helped India post an above-par total of 445 with decent contributions by the lower order.

The total proved to be enough for the English batter as Ben Stokes and co. were bundled out for 319 and were found chasing the game in the second innings as India scored 430 runs with Jaiswal scoring another double century.

4. South Africa vs India, Second Test 2024

The second South Africa vs India test in 2024 was similar to the third test played between the two teams in 2018.

The match was finished in less than two days, with both South Africa and India getting bundled out for 55 and 153, respectively, on day one.

Having said that, India’s lead of 98 runs proved to be a decisive one as the Rohit Sharma-led side bowled the home team out for 176 runs in the second innings and chased the target with seven wickets in hand.

5. India vs Australia, Second Test 2023

The second test of the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy was a keenly contested game between the two teams, with the margin of lead that Australia got after the first innings being one run.

India were reduced to 139/7 in pursuit of Australia’s 263, and it took the eighth wicket partnership between Ashwin and Axar to guide India to within touching distance of Australia’s score.

It was then over to the Indian bowlers to do their job, and they did it by bowling Australia out for 113 runs in the second innings as the home team were set a target of 115, which they chased after losing a few early wickets.
