Greene says base furious with Congress, not Trump

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) said Monday that President Trump’s base is furious with Congress but not the president himself.

Last week, Greene said in a post on the social platform X that “the base is not happy,” noting the Ukraine minerals deal and talks with Iran, among other subjects.

“I represent the base and when I’m frustrated and upset over the direction of things, you better be clear, the base is not happy,” Greene said in a long post on X Friday.

“When you are losing MTG, you are losing the base. And Trump isn’t on the ballot in the future, so do the math on that,” she added later in her post.

Greene was asked about her Friday comments in an interview with NewsNation’s Blake Burman on “The Hill.”

‘Well, actually, the base is thrilled with President Trump,” Greene said. “Border security has never been better, and the economy’s going in the right direction, inflation is coming down, gas is coming down, eggs is finally back down, food prices are coming down, airline tickets are coming down and jobs are up.”

“However, it’s Congress the base is furious with, and Congress didn’t seem to get the message from the November 2024 election, and that’s what I’m sounding the alarm about,” she added.

Greene has been one of the president’s most vocal supporters throughout her time in Congress. Earlier this year, she introduced a bill to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America” in the wake of a proposal from Trump pushing for the change.

“The American people are footing the bill to protect and secure the maritime waterways for commerce to be conducted. Our U.S. armed forces protect the area from any military threats from foreign countries,” Greene said in the social platform X previously.

“It’s our gulf. The rightful name is the Gulf of America, and it’s what the entire world should refer to it as.”
