Majority of US Latino voters believe country headed in wrong direction: Poll

A majority of U.S. Latino voters believe the country is heading in the wrong direction and most hold President Trump responsible, a new survey found.

According to the survey, released Monday by UnidosUS, 60 percent of Latino voters in the country say things are currently going in the wrong direction. Seventy percent say Trump is to blame.

Four of the top priorities for Hispanic voters continue to be “pocketbook issues,” with cost of living and inflation topping the list of concerns, the survey found.

Most Latino voters say Trump and Republicans in Congress are not putting enough focus on lowering everyday costs. Forty-nine percent blame Trump for the rising cost of living.

Sixty-six percent believe Trump’s tariff agenda will reduce economic opportunity and 64 percent say it was a bad decision for U.S. trade, the survey found.

“Latino voters are frustrated that their economic priorities are being ignored and that a key promise made by President Trump during the election is not being kept,” Janet Murguía, UnidosUS president and CEO, said in a statement.

“Economic discontent was the most potent driver in the 2024 election, helping President Trump increase support among Latinos,” Murguía said. “But over half of Hispanic voters feel the economy is worse now than a year ago and nearly as many believe it will be worse a year from now.”

Two-thirds of respondents in the poll say the rule of law is failing and the constitution is being violated under the Trump administration.

Many oppose the actions of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). More than 60 percent have an unfavorable view of Musk and 52 percent have an unfavorable view of DOGE, which has dismantled federal agencies and laid off thousands of workers.

The survey was conducted from April 11-19 among 1,002 people and has a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points. It was conducted in both English and Spanish.
